Do YOU believe Kerry Roberts?
A pivotal witness in the case against Karen Read puts a hole in the defense's conspiracy argument. (Opinion Piece)
It’s been four weeks of trial so far, and we’re finally getting closer to the meat of the case — medical and digital forensics.
Are y’all still hanging in there?
The first four weeks of the Karen Read trial have been a slow, tedious ride through every single witness who was involved, to a degree, in the events surrounding John O’Keefe’s death.
We’ve heard from emergency personnel, initial responding officers, friends, acquaintances, partygoers.
Prosecution has taken its time to build and seal the foundation of the storyline, while defense has spent their precious moments trying to impeach every single person who takes the stand.
As we know, the defense took a dramatic approach in their opening argument when declaring that “Karen Read was framed”.
And since making that bold declaration…
They’ve had to thread the needle, so to speak, in their cross-examinations to show the jurors that Karen is actually a victim of a large conspiracy consisting of firefighters, EMTs, LE, medical examiner, DNA lab tech, long-time friends and new friends of John O’Keefe.
Reminds me a bit of the Casey Anthony trial when defense attorney, Jose Baez, claimed that Casey’s dad was the actual villain.
BUT, the difference is…
Karen Read’s attorneys need to make everyone the villain.
This is likely why they 'greased the wheels’ for an entire year with the public by marketing their corruption conspiracy. The mob was riled up with pitchforks over leaked, out-of-context autopsy photos, one-sided conspiracy-affirming reports, and SO MANY reckless speculations.
One of the many issues in trying to discredit every single witness is that some witnesses are simply impossible to discredit.
And the defense has a real issue with this regarding witness, Kerry Roberts.
Kerry Roberts was not at the Waterfall Bar that night, nor was she at the Albert property.
In fact…
The defense can’t link Kerry to anyone other than John and his family. She doesn’t have a teenager who once partied at the beach with an EMT, nor a sister-in-law who once babysat for the investigator’s sister’s kids.
Kerry Roberts was a long-time, dear friend of John O’Keefe, and is an outlier in the storyline surrounding John’s death. This makes her testimony a vital piece for the prosecution.
Kerry Roberts testified that Karen called her around 5am saying, “John is dead”. Karen then tells her that she thinks he may have been hit by a snow plow. This is all before they actually find out that John, is indeed, harmed outside in the snow.😳
Why does this statement matter?
Because Kerry has no skin in the game. If John was beat up and killed by a gang of officers, or a dog, or a teenager…
She would say it.
Kerry has no reason to join in on an egregious murder coverup involving people she does not know. And if Kerry is not involved in the coverup, then the conspiracy theory falls apart. In order for it to work, there simply cannot be a missing link in the mass coverup chain.
On top of that…
Her statements are consistent with the previous witnesses, including Jen McCabe, which gives even more credence to those previous witnesses.
Other moments in her testimony that were huge (and highly emotional😔), were when Kerry describes digging John’s head out of the snow. This contradicts defense attorney Yannetti’s claim in his opening statement that there was barely any snow on the ground that morning. Kerry also states that she was confused how Karen saw John’s snow-covered body from the backseat of the vehicle as they approached the house while it was dark out and actively snowing.
The defense team has spent countless hours trying to impeach each witness on the stand, but to many people’s surprise, they chose not to cross-examine Kerry Roberts.
Her testimony was so emotional that the defense may have chosen to forgo their cross-examination and hold out until later in the trial to bring her back. OR they will just avoid her all together with hopes that the jurors lose sight of her testimony in the sea of other witnesses.
